Where There’s Smoke

It has been almost exactly three years since I have had a cigarette, yet last night I had a dream that I was smoking again.  In the dream I had also quit, but at some time in the past I decided to take it up again.  I was conflicted about this in the dream, realizing that it was a bad choice, but still wanting to do it.  In my actual life I miss the smoking, but have no real desire to start smoking again, but there must be something lingering in my brain that wants the sensation even after this long a separation.  I did recently buy a pipe, though it was more because I think pipes are cool to have than for a desire to start smoking one regularly.  The time commitment is just too great with a pipe.  I have smoked it once since I got it, but I’ll keep it around for special occasions.

My daughter is now a year old.  This makes my relative age (when she is my age I will be) seventy.  That’s depressing, but what are you going to do.  She walks all around, and shows some of the early signs of language, though her vocabulary is so limited to render conversing a bore. 

Over the last month I have been growing out my beard to test whether I am a man.  The result is that I am kinda a man, but not wholly.  It did grow in and almost fills in, though not perfectly, but it took a long time to do so, in comparison with real men.  At the end of the month I will spend a little time experimenting with a couple of facial hair shaving options (soul patch not included!), and then remove all facial hair (eye brows and lashes not included!) and head hair.  I don’t feel any attachment to the beard, as this was merely an experiment from the start.

I have added icons for iPhone and iPod Touch users. Now if you are on this site and click the add to home screen button, you will get a snappy little icon for this site rather than a thumbnail of the page itself. I know how many of you want to be able to access all of the exciting information here at a moment’s (moments? Does the moment belong to the notice? I suppose it must since you wouldn’t say moments notice since that would be more like the opposite of what you meant. Still looks goofy. I’m not convinced one way or the other.) notice.

You will also get little icons for the Educated in the West, Somerset’s Mom, and Pimpgnosis sites, so enjoy. Other sites in the AllGuinness universe to come.

I Guess You Won’t Be Attending that Hat Convention in the Fall

I read today that the Attorney General has refused to judge whether or not waterboarding is in fact torture. I think that congress should cut his fingers off one at a time until he agrees to actually answer the question.

And Now, Sport

I am a Green Bay Packers fan, and so I was very happy to see them beat up on the Seahawks, but was nearly as happy to see Dallas get beat by the New York Football Giants. I think that the Packers may have had a very hard time winning in Dallas, but that they should be able to handle the Giants in Green Bay.

A couple of other notes about the Cowboys loss. Owens was probably right to say that the fact that Romo went on vacation to Cabo had little to do with the loss (though anything to stay focused during that week might have been a good idea in my opinion), but crying about it in the press conference reveals him as the weak pussy he has always been.

I also don’t think that the Patriots are as good as everyone keeps saying that they are. I keep hearing that they may be the best team of all time, but when I look at this team I don’t get that impression at all. They don’t seem to dominate or intimidate as much as happen to win. Not that winning all of these games is nothing, but I would take any number of great teams from the past and feel confident that I could beat the crap out of the current Patriots. Tell me, would you rather have Montana – Rice or Brady – Moss? Would that even be a close call? It wouldn’t for me, and that’s just one example.

In baseball news. Shut the fuck up about steroids. I admit that baseball fans should care, and that players and owners should care, and possibly even vice units of local police departments should care, but you know who shouldn’t care? Fucking congress, that?s who. We have an imminent recession, an education program that is dissolving, some sore if war (I think), possible corruption in some levels of government, and so on. Is the issue of steroid use among a bunch of individuals with their own personal plans, and no thoughts to overthrow the government, for example, really the best way for even a single member, much less a committee, to spend his time? If their actions are criminal, imprison them. Otherwise let baseball worry about baseball. Unless Roger Clemens has an economic stimulus package to present, he should stay out of Washington.
