This is Halloween, Halloween! Halloween!

What the hell is this?

Anyhoo.

How are you doing? I decided at the last minute to jump into NaNoWriMo this year. Don’t worry. I’m sure I’ll fail miserably. I may not write at all.

In other, and more important, news, I have heard from inside source Commander Plaza, that there is a probable remake of Five Deadly Vemons (or Wu Du apparently) on the horizon. I couldn’t find the link he alluded to, but it is supposed to be somewhere on the Celestial films site. This would be big news for me, as it is my favorite of all kung fu films. I hope they do it up right.

Progress

I would love to write. I don’t seem to actually do it though. I did however find a pretty good post about the thought behind story writing at Pixar from the TAG blog. I think this relates to good writing for anything.

We finally finished another room (except for the floor refinishing which will wait till all are ready to go) in the never-ending house work. What has been called the angle room before and is now destined to be the nursery is now pretty much finished up. Hold on a second while I go and look for before and after pics.

Here is one of the before pics:

I also made a whole set of the before pics.

Hold on, and I’ll go take an after pic from approximately the same angle.
And here it is:

You can see that there is still plumbing showing where that old sink was, and we are going to put a new one in there later, but I am pretty happy with how it turned out. Sure it isn’t perfect by any stretch, but it is about as good as we can do with our limited ability. I wish I was the type who worked easily with his hands, and has an eye for the way things should be, but it is not to be. Still, I’m not unhappy with the work, I just recognize it for what it is.

We are pushing to get ready for the flooring for early December and to be finished laying it before Christmas, and possibly even have it sanded and refinished in January, but that may wait a little longer. Since it is just us, we need to set arbitrary deadlines to help speed our work along.

Like Sand Through the Hourglass

Last Sunday marks the one year anniversary of my marriage to Wife. The time has just floated by. It seems like nothing much has happened, unless I stop and think about it, then I guess it has been a year of a reasonable amount of events. The most important even, and one I’m happy to report, is that I stopped watching Heroes after only two and a half episodes. Hooray for me! It took me a little while, but thankfully not too long, to realize that it is pretty much pure crap. The plot lines don’t make much sense, and I know they are just trying to do the thing where they draw you in by being ambiguous about what is going on, but in this case it is just silly and boring. Too bad too, because there is serious potential for a show where the people have super powers. I think they should have made it a comedy instead of trying to be all serious about it. How can I become emotionally involved with a whiny little asshole who can fly? Why am I writing about television anyway? It’s true that that is all I do, but it makes for writing that nobody could care about.

In other news: I am old. Perhaps not news after all, but that doesn’t change the fact that it is my birthday tomorrow. I’m like the old dude one the internet, yelling, “hey you kids, stay off my blog!” Since I am so old, and since I want to see my unborn child at least through grade school, I have started exercising everyday, and eating better. I know I say that about every other week or so, but this time I have gone for all of the days this week, so there may be a little momentum building here. Hard to say. My current weight is *tilt*, so I’ll let you know when that changes to a number.

I’m doing Thanksgiving here this year for a select audience. The theme looks to be Italian, so I need to figure out some ways to port the traditional Thanksgiving items and flavors to Italian theme. Pumpkin ravioli, for starters, but we’ll have to see what else I can flesh out.

Media Meditation

I have caught the first two episodes of Freakshow on Comedy Central. In general it is not very good, but there are brief moments where I have hopes for the future. Davis Cross is a funny guy, and we all know what I think of Jon Benjamin. There are some really funny parts, usually to do with characters other than the main characters. I’ll keep an eye on it.

Did you catch Gloria Steinem and Jane Fonda on the Colbert Report the other night? That shit was straight goofy. It seemed to go along perfectly with the unusually odd appearance on the Daily Show by David Cross.

In other networks, I saw one of the episodes of the new Discovery Atlas shows on the Discovery channel. I enjoyed it quite a bit. It had little stories about a few different people in different parts of China and talked about theiur life and such. They were different economically and all that, so they go a couple of different perspectives. It is good, and makes me interested in catching other episodes. One advantage is that is takes some time to tell the stories, and doesn’t try and jam too much in at once.

In addition to watching Studio 60 which is good, I am watching Heroes, which is not good. Pretty bad writing and all that, but it falls into a slot where I am just lazy enough to watch it.

I have been updating My Movies blog with Netflix views and all that, and I invite you to check it out, if you have nothing better to do.

Wife has left her old job and starts the new one today, so good luck to her.

I’ve Got Pointless by the Case

It has been a while since I made any real change around here, so I decided to whip up some quick logos. They are the kind of thing that will be looked at in a couple of years as being amateurish and passé. What may look shiny and new now is really a pretty hackneyed approach. Still, entertaining for me to do. I have done better and will do so again, but this is for fun.

In more interesting news, there are a coupe of important additions to the AllGuinness family of blog products. Both are low in cholesterol, and have non-stick surfaces. What is it I speak of? New blogs by tlcnyc and Oldboy. Tlc is faster out of the block and has already started with a couple of early entries. Oldboy has just arrived in Korea so may need some time to settle in. It is possible he may not be inclined to post at all, but I am happy to provide the option for him.

I’ll keep you informed.

Pay no attention to the man in the lederhosen on Oldboy.
