For the end of the traditional summertime period, Wife, the Twig Yak, and I went over to Jenner for the three-day weekend. It was very sedate, as usual. The weather in Sacramento may have been high nineties, but at the coast it was too chilly to sit outside without being a little bundled up. Even for me, on many occasions. We had to have a fire everyday. It was great. I made some ok food, including an interesting fish dish.
It was the perfect way to end the summer. Even though it is hot here once again, over there it was as if we were in summer one moment and winter the next.
The really important thing to note about the trip was that I wore my brand new lederhosen on the trip over, including the shopping at Albertson’s. My parents were kind enough to pick them up for me on their recent trip to Germany, and they are totally cool. Some people might wonder when a pair of lederhosen is really useful, but I plan to wear them around on a regular basis. I also got the shirt that goes with them, and two pair of appropriate socks. They gave me two pair, one shorts and the other goes just below the knee. Both of them are totally rad. I still want to get a pair of the appropriate shoes and one of those cool hats. Soon.
There is a new place open in Valley Ford on the way to Jenner. It is in the building where the Valley Ford Inn or Hotel was. It has locally sourced southern inspired food. We stopped there for a little bit on the way back because they had a smoker set up and had a variety of bbq items for our lunch. I had the pulled pork sandwich, and it was delicious. I’ll have to check out the real restaurant on some future trip.

i am planning a trip to jenner. where would be a nice place to stay?
Pretty much the only place to stay, other than a rental of some private house, is at the Jenner Inn (http://www.jennerinn.com/). It is like an expanded bed and breakfast setup, and is pretty good, though probably not too cheap.
