Chitown, the Windy, Second City

Wednesday, June 28th, 2006

Tomorrow I leave for a ling road trip with wife to Chicago to attend a wedding and see friends. I wanted to drive because I hate to fly , and because it reminds me of my youth. We drove across the country many times in those days. I spent a year in Canada near Toronto, and I think four summers in Pennsylvania. We needed to have the car so it made sense for all of us to pile in and drive. In this case it makes almost no sense. I don’t particularly need a car, and the time I am going is far too short for it to make any sense. The gas alone will cost more than the plane tickets would have cost, but I’m not letting that stop me.

It is to be a great meeting of minds this trip. A collection of some of the greatest thinkers and doers in the country, or something. I’m not sure of all who are coming, but I hope to see Tojo, Commander Plaza, THM, M&EM, RBL, SEB, and perhaps others acronyms I hadn’t thought of. I think we are going to eat and perhaps go to the museum of science and industry. That place rules.

I don’t think I’ll be able to post from the road, but I should have a detailed report and pictures on my return.

I am marking the time of my return to Sacramento as the beginning of a new era for me. Stay tuned for developments.

Not the First, But a Good Source

Waiter Rant has something that I think all people who use cell phones should read. Thirty-one points on how to use a cellphone without looking like an asshole. Unlike many lists of this type, I agree with all of these points. Read them, learn them, live them.

Wait, This Actually Seems Like a Good Thing

I can’t say I see anything really wrong with this plan to make large amounts of ocean around remote parts of Hawaii protected. There doesn’t even seem to be any bad economic impact from it. How did the administration stumble onto this, do you think?

The Sign

I’m certain that there is a meaning to all this.

All of My Posts Come From Metafilter

So you should probably just read Metafilter instead of this boring site.

But still.

This goes as a shout-out to Commander Plaza. And his mom.

This one may be more appropriate.
