Just as Torino had prepared for the Olympic Games, so has California as a whole prepared for the upcoming arrival of Commander Plaza. Though the Commander has visited the Golden State in the past, it is this return to the land of his birth on a more permanent basis that has residents really excited.
Gladys Whypple, of Fresno, a self proclaimed happy housewife, summed up the feelings of many in the state, “I could just run into the Commander in the store. I’m sure he’s like other people, and needs to shop for groceries just like the rest of us.”
Though she may be right about some things, there is no evidence that he is like the rest of us, or that he has any intention of spending much, or any, time in Fresno.
Mrs. Whypple went on to say, “I could totally afford all this cheese!”
Many public events have security costs that skyrocket in this age of violence, but State officials were relieved, financially, to hear that the Commander will be providing his own security.
A spokesman for the governor’s office said, “our state is happy to help in any way we can, but really, when you are talking about Commander Plaza of the Space Marines, what can we do that would be better than he could do himself?”
The Governor’s office was tight lipped about further details of the celebrations planned for the arrival of the commander.
Not all citizens were as happy to hear the news of the Commander’s imminent arrival. James Hobson seemed a little dismayed at all the excitement, “It isn’t like he’s the Pope or something. I don’t see anybody running around with Commander Plaza on a rope.” He then back-peddled, saying, “Not that he should be on a rope, I just mean that there is no pleasantly scented soap in his likeness.”
Federal Agents are now referring Mr. Hobson as a “person of interest.”
The Commander is on a whistle-stop tour of the nation, and his exact arrival is unknown, though it is expected in the near future. The specifics of the route are not public information at this time. This is probably to allow him some time with Miss S., his traveling companion.
The Commander is expected to spend some time in planning sessions in the State capital of Sacramento, before ultimately setting up operations in Los Angeles.
Victor Charlie, a confidant and sometimes legal representative for the Commander, is thought to be making preparations for his arrival, but he was out of town for the weekend and was unavailable for comment. His exact whereabouts and activities were, as they often are, unknown.
Many people have wondered about the reasons for this move to the west coast. Commander Plaza just finished up what is considered to be one of the most important lecture series ever at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, and most expected him to remain in the area, or at least on the east coast for some time. Some speculate that this move is a reaction to some new intelligence. One thing is for sure, now that he is going to be on the west coast and Rex Masterson is in Hawaii, the eastern Pacific will be getting more attention than in any time in recent memory.
We will continue to report on events as they break.
